New Teachers
Elko County
Teachers new to the Elko County School District participate in Phase I of the RISE Program (Retaining, Inducting, Supportin, and Encouraging). Participants receive intensive training in the five days prior to the beginning of the regular teacher contract day in August. Program goals include:
- Provide instruction in classroom management and effective teaching techniques;
- Reduce the difficulty of the transition into teaching;
- Maximize the retention rate of highly qualified teachers.
Phase II of RISE pairs the new teacher with an Instructional Coach ensuring that the skills and knowledge delivered during Phase I are applied. Coaches are assigned to teachers based on grade level and content area, when possible. The purpose of the overall RISE Program is to alleviate anxiety, create opportunities to promote instructional best practices, and ensure new teachers receive assistance throughout the academic year.
Four of the Instructional Coaches are located in the High Tech Center at 1290 Burns Road in Elko, Nevada. The others have offices in Jackpot and West Wendover. Their contact information is listed below.
